Here are some great ways for students to build their vocabulary.
Spark Notes sells several short books aimed at building vocabulary. Every page has highlighted words with the definition right at the bottom of the page so students don’t have to make a huge effort in learning the meaning of the word. All these books are very easy beach reads about high school students and their relationships and /or problems that they face. I’d like to emphasize how easy these books are to read.
Amazon sells these books – Click on the link below to read more about them on amazon:
Busted An SAT Vocabulary Novel
Sun-Kissed An SAT Vocabulary Novel.
There’s also S.C.A.M,
Head Over Heels, and
Vampire Dreams, all by Spark Notes.
Another great book for vocabulary words is Word Smart by Princeton Review. You’ll find more than 1,400 words covering common usage errors and the most frequently tested words on standardized tests.
Reading is a great way to build vocabulary but what if your child doesn’t love reading? Try those SAT vocabulary novels by Spark Notes and/or get them to learn vocabulary words. Their reading comprehension ability will soar with a solid vocabulary.
